1) The Vespers present a lot of sixteenth notes, a note that up until now, I've been fairly unfamiliar with. I can sing them fine if I hear them by ear, but if I'm trying to sight read, I always get the rhythm all wrong when I come to a sixteenth note.
2) Well, I've just gotta practice, I suppose. Eighth notes also happened to be a problem for me until a fateful practice session with the Acafellas, and now they're pretty simple for me to tackle. However, since we usually divide notes into only two beats, up and down, it'd be a challenge to divide it even further, especially if required to do it on the spot like while sight reading. I plan to solidify sixteenth notes through repetition of simple rhythms, and hopefully from there, I can internalize the timing structure.
3) The orchestral music in the Vespers is pretty dominant; you could remove the chorus and the instrumental alone would be entirely legitimate. It's a far reach from simple background or supporting music. Knowing this, what techniques do you think would help us to be unforgettable in this concert, and not overshadowed by the music?
4) My weakness in sight reading has always been intervals. I just honestly never got them down. Gotta work on identifying intervals hard so my movement will be smoother, more confident, and less hesitant.
